Motorhome Hire at Picton, New Zealand
Picton is located on the north shore of New Zealand's South Island, in the Marlborough region.
Originally settled by Maori people who set up a village called Waitohi, the land was purchased by European Settlers in 1844. The town was known by many names, including Newton, until 1859, when the Marlborough Province was created and the town was renamed Picton, after Sir Thomas Picton, the hero of Badajoz, who fell at Waterloo.
Picton is located at the head of the Queen Charlotte Sound, a waterway linked to the beautiful Marlborough Sounds. This gives access to over 1500km of beaches and coves.
There is regular ferry access to Wellington on the North Island, with the trip featuring a stunning cruise through Queen Charlotte Sound, the Marlborough Sound and on through the Cook Straight.
